The Initial Assessment
In order to develop a successful treatment plan, it is important that I am able to gain as much information as I can surrounding your problem, as well as your goals and expectations of physiotherapy. The initial assessment, therefore, involves me taking a detailed history of your problem, as well as your general health and any current medication you are taking.
Following this, a physical examination is undertaken, where you may be asked to remove some of your outer clothing. Please make me aware if anything makes you feel uncomfortable, as it is important that you are as comfortable as possible throughout your appointment. The assessment usually involves observing movement, testing muscle strength, range of movement, muscle spasm as well as feeling for any signs of inflammation. I will then use all the information gained to give an impression of what the problem may be and why it may have occurred. Any findings will then be discussed with you, to help you understand your problem, so together we can decide on the best possible treatment plan.
Sometimes, I may decide that physiotherapy is not the best option for you at this time, possibly because you need further assessment from another health care professional. This may mean that I advise you see your general practitioner or consultant.

Where To Find Me
What To Wear
To carry out an accurate and thorough assessment, it is important that I am able to observe the necessary body parts, whilst maintaining your comfort and dignity.
It is, therefore, important that you dress appropriately for your appointment.
This may require you to wear a pair of shorts for lower limb problems, or ladies to wear a sports bra or top, for upper back, neck or shoulder problems.
What To Bring
Please bring any relevant documentation, such as scan or imaging results related to your problem.
If you are using medical insurance, please ensure you have your authorisation code and insurance membership number with you.
Please also bring a list of any current medication you may be taking. If you have a running injury, it is useful if you bring along your current running footwear.
Cancellation Policy
Hook physiotherapy follow industry code, where I would expect a minimum of 24 hours’
notice to cancel your appointment. If this is not adhered to, I do charge the full cost of your appointment.
Medical Insurance
I am currently in the process of becoming registered with some of the leading medical insurers. If you have medical insurance, please contact the clinic prior to making your appointment to ensure I am registered with your insurer.
